First Left Handed Paintings

A few weeks ago I said aloud " I would like a paid vacation". Well I guess I got it. Just not one on a beach in Hawaii basking in the sun. (Careful what you ask for. You just may get it, but not the way you think you will.)

This has been quite an adventure breaking my right wrist. From the moment I fell a long way down off the step ladder in slow motion to now with one week to go before the cast comes off! I have so much compassion for people who break any bone and have to go through with this stuff.

Have you ever fallen?? and it feels like slow motion?  In my mind I was thinking " Can I rewind this image before I hit the floor and be back at the top of the step stool?" But alas there I was on the laundry room floor looking at what appeared to be someone else's hand all mangled and lifeless. Very strange.

If you are an artist, you can understand my frustration of not being able to work in the studio.

I have an artist friend who broke both wrists when she fell backwards off an exercise ball. I did not have the courage to ask her how she got dressed, who helped her in the bathroom etc. etc. I had enough trouble as it was trying to pull my pants up with one hand! Seeing her really put things in perspective and I am grateful I broke just 2 bones and not more.

For the last few weeks my husband has helped to dress me, open containers,  cook for me (he does that regularly anyway),  but he really has given me extra attention. What a doll he has been.  My interns have been patient with me trying to tell them what I needed them to do in the studio. When you automatically do something, it is a real lesson to verbalize how you work.

Anyway as I started to feel better, I had to try to paint with my left hand. Who knows why things happen as they do. Am I supposed to paint left handed?

Here are my first abstract paintings that I have ever created in my 35+ year as an artist. Thought I would post them and ask what you think. Very abstract. They kind of look like encaustics but are painting on metal stretched over a gently curved surface and have about 100 layers of paint, resin and polymers on the surface.

I know that there are blessings in everything in life. Nothing bad ever happens that good does not come from it. One of those blessings was that I finally have the carpal tunnel problem taken care of. Doc said "While we are in there lets just fix that too!"  I am looking forward to no more pain!

So please get back to me and let me know what you think of my first two lefty handed paintings and if you think that I should do some more. Thanks for sticking in with my ramblings.

Feeling the sunshine within,

Catherine

Do Artists Retire?

Left Handed Painting

DO ARTISTS RETIRE?

One of my sisters (I have 4) keeps asking me: “When are you going to retire?” My mind goes into a spin as I think “RETIRE? ME? “   That is not even in my life plan.

How could anyone who is passionate about his or her life purpose ever think about retiring from doing what fulfills them the most?

Isn’t retirement for people who have been doing a job “to make a living” and get to an age where they stop that job and really do what they are passionate about?

For me to stop creating from my heart, stop following with the inner muse, stop wanting to serve through my talents would be DEATH!

The art/healing is my excitement in life. I dream art. I live art. I am the art.

Being an artist is a way of life and not something that is retired away.

My plan is to continue my passions, take better care of myself, and pass on doing what I am passionate about.  Retire from being an artist! NEVER!!!

I did have to slow down with breaking my right wrist, but just created two paintings left handed.  Who knows why these things happen? I think I just needed a breather and rest. It has given me lots of time to meditate, work on raising my energy with new techniques from Kristen and David Morelli   (you can try these too at http://tiny.cc/LNkYf . They are having a free call to teach even more on April 22nd. Come join us.

 * Let me know what you think of my left handed paintings. Maybe I need to create more? Was this the reason I broke my wrist? It was fun and helped me be creative while the right hand is in a cast.

Have a great creative day. Thank you for coming to my blog.

Currently working on the Peace Prevails Project Phase II, a public interactive art installation.

My team is starting with seeking support from a non profit organization to run the project through.

and grant support. Let me know if you have any suggestions of possibilities.

Phase II involves casting the bodies of artist/healers representing each of the 7 continents

for life sized sculptures with their voice in their language with words of peace.  Included will be

the artwork of these artists and a show of my artwork  “Wrapping Ourselves in Peace”. Included

will be activities for the public to create peace artwork, write letters of peace to the United Nations

and more.  To keep in touch with the progress of the project  go to this blog….
